MORE FROM YOUR DENIM.
Fit notes

Find your fit, beyond the size label.

Waist, rise, seat and leg. Four things to check before deciding a pair fits.

Two pairs with the same size on the label can feel completely different. Fabric, rise and cut all affect the fit. A few repeatable checks are more useful than memorising a single number.

1. Start with a pair you already like

Lay it flat without stretching it. Measure the waistband, front rise and inside leg. Follow the size guide of the brand you are shopping with, because flat garment measurements and body measurements are not interchangeable. Note whether your reference jeans contain stretch.

2. Check the waist when sitting

The waistband should feel secure without digging in. Sit naturally and breathe normally. If you only feel comfortable standing very straight, keep looking. A slight gap at the back may call for a different waist-to-hip shape, not a smaller overall size.

3. Give the hips and seat room

Look for pulling around the pockets and across the front. Bend your knees and take a few steps. Rigid denim can soften with wear, but do not depend on major stretching to make an uncomfortable pair work.

4. Choose the leg for how you dress

  • Straight: a relatively consistent line from knee to hem.
  • Tapered: more room higher up, narrowing towards the ankle.
  • Wide: more volume through the leg, with different rises and lengths available.

These labels describe a shape, not a universal measurement. Try the jeans with your usual shoes, and check how the hem falls while walking.

Write down the measurements of a pair that works. It is a much better shopping reference than “I am always a medium”.
